Research

Through secondary research, I discovered three essentials for your brain: sleep quality, diet, and exercise. All three are connected.

During sleep, your brain consolidates information, turning short-term memories into long-term ones, which helps your learning and memory. Nutrient-rich foods provide essential elements that contribute to overall brain health. On the other hand, an inadequate diet high in processed foods and sugars may impair cognitive abilities.

I thought most people who suffered from memory lapses were old, not in their 20s or 30s. However, the research showed me otherwise.

Problem

I conducted a survey, interviewed a subject matter expert and some user interviews, concluding that users live in a circle. In this circle, they feel judged by others because they forgot something. Since they are younger, no one understands or accepts that they sometimes forget things. Because of this judgement, they see themselves in bed thinking about it and what they could have done differently. Consequently, they sleep only 4 hours; the next day, they’re tired and don’t go to the gym for that exact reason; at night, dinner is McDonald’s because they don’t have the energy to cook. In fact, this is one of the stories a user told during an interview.

With all the changes in the country, the search for houses to live in, and the income we can have, the younger generations have many concerns about their future lives. As a consequence, we have more cases of anxiety and depression, and this is another thing that messes a lot with memory.

Drafting a solution

All the designs went through many changes after the desirability and concept testing. I tried to make the app simple, calm, peaceful, and refreshing, and I only stopped making changes when the users described it that way.

Colors
Next Steps
  • Do all the design with the other colours;

  • Add the stats page with monthly, six-month and yearly stats and graphics;

  • Add the log day page where the user can add today's feelings and track their sleep, diet and exercise;

  • Add a “Continue process” pop-up option if the user hasn’t finished talking with chat and comes back later;

  • Add an explanation of which type of diet is in the first set-up;

  • Add more animation on the logo, like bubbles moving around;

  • Inspiring tips and quotes;

  • Use the white text colour in the menu with all the colours (needs to pass the contrast test).

Watch

This project required a secondary look-and-feel mockup for another channel. I chose Apple Watch to give users more opportunities to use the chat.

Prototype & Features
  • The user can select the “colour of calm.” I wanted the user to feel safe and comfortable from the beginning. We can always change the colour in the settings later.

  • Since this is the first setup, the user is asked about forgetting things and their habits like sleep, diet, exercise and if they feel judged or uncomfortable when someone complains that they forgot something.

  • The user can log is day on the homepage. This feature allows them to register their feelings and habits.

  • The user has the chat menu, where they are guided through some questions to help them process any problem and deal better with it. This feature allows the user to think more clearly, avoid going to bed thinking and jeopardize their sleep time.

  • The user can choose between speaking and writing to the chat to feel more comfortable and to allow them to deal with the problem the way they prefer.
